The Friday, February 4ths performance has been cancelled DUE TO THE WEATHER. THE SHOW WILL OPEN ON SATURDAY 5TH! On Friday evening, February 4, the Sherman Community Players will open the Texas-sized comedy DEARLY BELOVED. The play is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. This trio have been screen writers for Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Studios and wrote and produced nearly 400 episodes of the hit television series THE GOLDEN GIRLS. They currently enjoy the reputation of being three of the most widely-produced comedy playwrights in America.
DEARLY BELOVED is a laugh-out-loud, fast-paced Southern comedy of love, marriage, sisterhood, gospel music and three hundred pounds of good Texas barbecue! It tells the story of the Futrelle sisters who are in the midst of planning a wedding, but, as in all good comedies things soon go wildly off course with its “Gone With The Wind” theme, a reception catered by Clovis Sanford’s House of Meats, and a missing bride and groom.
The eleven member cast portray a mix of wild and funny characters, including a menopausal sister, several “Bubba-type” boys, a vengeful mother-of-the-groom, a fortune-teller and a wedding coordinator with the personality of a drill sergeant.
DEARLY BELOVED has performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. and runs through February 20. For reservations, call the box office number at 903-892-8818. Performances are held in the Finley Theatre at 500 N. Elm in Sherman. There will be a preview performance on Thursday, February 3, with all tickets bargain-priced at $5. Tickets for the preview will be sold at the door.
On Saturday evening, February 12 at 6 p.m., the Sherman Community Players’ Theatre Guild will be offering a catered Valentine dinner before the show. Tickets are $25 per person, and this does not include tickets for DEARLY BELOVED. The dinner is held in the meeting room off the main lobby of the theatre. For dinner reservations, call 903-870-0851.
