ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
by Joseph Kesselring
April 8,9,(10-mat.),14,15,16,(17-mat.),21,22,23
Sherman Community Players’ managing and artistic director Ron Cassady has announced his cast for the upcoming April production of the classic 1940’s screwball comedy ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. This popular play, which was later made into a successful motion picture starring Cary Grant has been delighting audiences for years.
It tells the story of two elderly, sweet, spinster sisters who have been compassionately slipping arsenic into their famous elderberry wine and sending sad, lonely old widowers to a higher and better place. Their nephew Teddy, who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt is more than happy to give the gentlemen a happy resting place in the family cellar, where he is digging the Panama Canal. He thinks the corpses are Yellow Fever victims and must be buried immediately!
The fourteen member cast is made up of all experienced veteran SCP performers. Heading the cast as the two sisters are KAREN SCHUTH and CAROLYN MONTGOMERY. SCP staff member JOHN LONNEVIK takes on the coveted role of their nephew Teddy. TRAVIS LYONS is cast in the Cary Grant role, and his wife CHARLENE LYONS plays his love interest. Comically evil characters in the show are played by PAUL JORDAN, with JOHNNY FLOWERS as his “Peter Lorre”-type sidekick.
Rounding out the cast as a preacher, police officers and potential poison victims are RIM NALL, ED RICHARDSON, BILLY KEENE, LARRY WINTERS, JOHN MARKL, MARK BEARDSLEY and BOB ENTREKIN. SCP Theatre Guild member JONI FRIEND will be serving as stage manager.
Tickets will be available beginning the second week of April. Box Office chairman Darlene Schweizer is already taking reservations for groups of ten or more. Her number is 903-893-7652.
