WHITE CHRISTMAS CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Bob Wallace-(Mid 30s-early 40s) A major singing star, he is half of the song-and-dance team of Wallace and Davis. He is occasionally gruff but is a kind and principled man searching for true love. A classic crooning style performer. Must move well and learn choreography. Baritone/Tenor

Phil Davis- (Mid 30-early 40s) The fun-loving song-and-dance partner of Bob Wallace. Phil is a clownish ladies’ man who is determined to see his friend find true love, even if that involves scheming and deception. He has a boyish charm. Must move well and learn choreography. Baritone/tenor

Betty Haynes-(Mid 20s-late 30s) Sensible, responsible half of the Haynes Sisters. Classic elegance and style. Devoted to and protective of her sister. Rich Mezzo-Soprano. Must move well and manage choreography.

Judy Haynes- (Mid 20s-mid 30s) Younger, more ambitious half of the Haynes Sisters. She is wholesome and adorable, sexy, flirty, and scheming. Strong Alto belt. Must move well and manage choreography.

General Henry Waverly-(late 50s-mid 60s) Retired Army general with a curmudgeonly military exterior, adjusting to retired life in post WWII America. Precise, orderly, but compassionate and warm. Ensemble vocals or non-singing.

Martha Watson-(late 40s -mid 60s) Once a Broadway star, now the General’s housekeeper. Dry wit and a wisecracking sense of humor. A big-hearted meddler. Strong singer/ mover with a Broadway belt. Mezzo/Alto

Susan Waverly-(young girl 9-12 to play 9 yrs old) The General’s granddaughter. Loveable and outgoing. A bit precocious, but wise beyond her years. Gets bitten by the stage bug and performs a solo number. Must move well and manage choreography. Strong soprano/alto belt.

Ralph Sheldrake-(mid 30s-early 40s) Jokester Army buddy of Bob and Phil’s, now a major television executive. Fast talking, loud, brash New York professional. Ensemble vocals

Rita and Rhoda-(mid 20s-early 30s) Bob and Phil’s two star chorus showgirls. Brash, sexy, fun. Maybe not very smart. Must move well and manage choreography. Ensemble vocals

Ezekiel Foster-(mid 40s-late 50s) The caretaker at the Inn. Practical, laid-back New Englander. A man of few words who takes life at a leisurely pace. Ensemble vocals

Mike-(mid 20s -late 30s) Bob and Phil’s Stage Manager. Overly dramatic and hysterical but gets the job done. Ensemble vocals

Ensemble-Talented performers to play assorted speaking roles as well as performing as a strong singing ensemble. Most move well and manage choreography.

Auditionees should arrive prepared to sing a short vocal piece (under one minute) in classic Broadway style which showcases their own unique style and voice. Please bring sheet music or a digital accompaniment track. Accompanist and blue tooth speaker provided.

Auditionees will do a short cold reading from the script. These materials will be available upon arrival in the lobby.

Callbacks (October 15) will include a dance/movement audition. If you are called back, you should bring appropriate clothing/shoes for this part of the audition.
